This is a new shooting activity at FWRR. Matches will be held in May, July, and September.

What is Rimfire Sporter?

  • Recreation and fun-oriented shooting sports discipline
  • Utilizes commonly available .22 cal. rimfire sporter rifles
  • Course of fire stresses a variety of rifleman skills—three firing positions, precision and rapid fire, two distances
  • Strict limits on equipment to keep costs under control
  • Targets where everyone gets hits and no one shoots “clean”
  • Where families and friends and all generations can shoot together

Rimfire Sporter Rifles

  • ¥22 cal. long rifle only (no .17 cals., no magnums)
  • Standard sporter-type rifle, conventional appearance
  • 7.5 lbs. maximum weight with sights, w/o sling
  • 3.0 lbs. minimum trigger weight
  • Any type action (semi-auto, bolt, lever, pump, straight pull)
  • No thumbhole stocks, no adjustable cheek-pieces or butt-plates

Sights O and T-Class

  • Telescopic sights (T Class)
  • 6X maximum power
  • Tape variables at 6X or less
  • Open sights (O Class)
  • Receiver sights (aperture) are in T Class
  • Spotting scope may be used to spot shots

Clothing and Accessories

  • Slings permitted—1 ¼” max. width
  • Sling swivel must be fixed
  • Ordinary clothing, maximum 2 sweatshirts or shirts
  • No shooting jackets
  • Ordinary work/sports glove OK, no special shooting gloves

Necessary Equipment

  • Eye Protection
  • Hearing Protection
  • Ground Cloth
  • Ammunition
  • Spotting Scope (optional)
  • Sweatshirt, long pants, cap, outdoor shoes
  • Pen, sunscreen, insect repellant

The Targets

  • Distances:  50 and 25 yards outdoors
  • Target Design
  • 10 ring, white for scope aiming point, 4 MOA
  • Scoring ring distance is 2 MOA
  • X-ring used to break ties
  • 50 foot targets available for indoor shooting
  • Prone/Sitting Target (simulates 50 yards)
  • Standing Target (simulates 25 yds.
